Photo  Scanning  and Photographing

Photos  larger  than  17"  Wide  and  22" Long

Digital photographs should be taken in natural light if possible. Use your camera's highest quality setting with the date/time function OFF. Be sure to identify it in the sequence and provide the caption, if any.

Digitally Scanned Photos

Photographs should be cleaned appropriately, using a dry, lint free cloth or anything else recommended by a reputable photography studio. The scanner glass should be cleaned according to your manufacturer's instructions.

Use a dpi setting of 400 for most photos. Using a higher setting is not necessary and can actually produce unwanted results. For example, if the paper the photo is printed on is textured, raising the dpi may cause the texture to be visible.

A small photograph with small persons in it will probably be blurry, however, you might try increasing the dpi to 600+, keeping in mind that doing so will increase the presence of artifacts such as scratches, tears and stains, some of which we may be able to remove digitally.

You can email the scanned photos or bring them to us on a disk or USB Flash Drive.
